New Game: Lords and Vassals

8 comments:

  1. hi,

    could you clarify this ?

what is the first winning condition ?
    "5 lords OR 5 vassals"
    or
    "5 lords AND 5 vassals" ??

is a custodian capture that doesnt form a line
    restricted to the corners ?

how is the start position determined ?
starts black with entering his pieces
then followed by white doing the same ?

    1. Apologize for not responding sooner, I've been a little busy.

The winning condition is 5 lords OR 5 vassals.

is a custodian capture that doesn't form a line
restricted to the corners ? NO

how is the start position determined ?

Black starts by entering his pieces
followed by white doing the same.

      Hope this helps. :)

  2. So a custodian capture works if ANY of 2 orthogonally adjacent (empty)
squares are occupied by like enemy pieces and is NOT restricted to
flanking a like enemy piece on 2 OPPOSITE sides ??

is it allowed to skip some (or all) of a move's 4 steps ?

    1. I'll answer your last question first, no you must use all 4 steps.

Now with respect to the custodian captures, it helps to think of the two sets of pieces as being on two separate planes. Vassals on the the lower plane and the Lords on the upper plane. Vassals can only capture Vassals as long as no Lords are on top pinning them. While Lords can capture only Lords but must do so on one plane or the other.

  3. is the following example a correct custodian capture ?

black lord on d4, white lord on e4, now black moves another lord to e3.
is the white lord on e4 captured by custodian capture after that move ??

    1. No, for the black lord to capture the white lord at e4, one black lord must be at d4 the other at f4.

    2. i see.
so the above style of capture is restrcited to the 4 corners of the board.
that was what i tried to make clear in the postings above.
